The Industrial Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining both production machinery and the physical infrastructure of the manufacturing facility. This skilled trades role performs mechanical and basic electrical work to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and facility systems in a high-volume manufacturing environment. The position supports safe, reliable, and efficient operations by executing preventive and corrective maintenance, responding to breakdowns, partnering with production to minimize downtime and quality issues, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment reliability and extend asset life. Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Responsibilities:

  • Respond to equipment breakdowns by diagnosing and repairing mechanical and basic electrical issues on production lines and support equipment using root-cause analysis and appropriate tools/documentation.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance, including inspection, setup, adjustment, and repair of extrusion machinery, pumps, motors, and auxiliary equipment to ensure reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Repair or replace defective components (e.g., bearings, gears, belts, chains, valves, electrical devices, wiring) and validate repairs in collaboration with engineering and production teams.
  • Maintain facility infrastructure and utility systems, including building structures, compressed air, water lines, exhaust systems, and basic HVAC components, while supporting 5S and housekeeping standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies and regulatory requirements, including PPE, LOTO, machine guarding, and safe work permits; identify and correct unsafe conditions.
  • Accurately complete work orders and maintenance documentation in CMMS, track equipment history, and assist with parts identification, inventory control, and technical documentation updates.
  • Collaborate with production, supervisors, and engineering to prioritize work, coordinate access, communicate job status, and support continuous improvement, safety, and reliability initiatives.

Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical/vocational training in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or related field preferred OR minimum of 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or similar environment preferred
  • Working knowledge of safe work practices, including LOTO and machine guarding; familiarity with OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and relevant codes.
  • Demonstrated experience with mechanical systems (gears, bearings, conveyors, pneumatics, hydraulics) and basic industrial electrical systems (motors, sensors, switches, control circuits).
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Basic industrial electrical skills, including working with motors, sensors, relays, and low-voltage control circuits; ability to use a multimeter and follow electrical schematics.
  • Must provide a personal set of basic hand tools and be proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and basic test equipment (e.g., multimeters).
  • Ability to use or learn computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to document work and look up information.
  • Ability to work weekends, overtime, and on-call as business needs require.
