Instructional Designer
Lisle, IL

As an Instructional Designer, you will spearhead learning initiatives, guiding projects from inception to launch. You will utilize contemporary instructional design techniques and a variety of multimedia tools to develop impactful technical training experiences. This role requires the management of several learning projects concurrently, conducting technical training sessions, and evaluating program success for ongoing enhancement.
Key Responsibilities of the Instructional Designer:
- Collaborate with Research & Development, Engineering, and technical SMEs to convert intricate product development processes into effective training solutions.
- Advocate for learning solutions to stakeholders and SMEs, pinpointing the most effective methods to fulfill educational goals.
- Engage with cross-functional teams and report directly to management to ensure integration with business objectives.
- Steer learning projects throughout their lifecycle, encompassing needs analysis, scope definition, instructional design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Juggle multiple ongoing projects across diverse product lines and geographic locations, while managing dependencies and updating leadership on progress.
- Oversee the execution of learning programs, including strategic planning, resource management, vendor coordination, and implementation oversight.
- Create and craft comprehensive multi-modal learning programs that include:
- Instructor-led training (ILT)
- Virtual instructor-led training (VILT)
- Digital learning modules
- Interactive video resources
- Performance support materials
- Social and peer learning approaches
- Develop new training content and refresh existing materials, ensuring they are technically precise regarding drawings, specifications, standard operating procedures, and quality systems.
- Employ various instructional design methodologies, including ADDIE, to perform needs analysis, storyboarding, scenario-based learning, assessments, and program evaluations.
- Generate high-quality instructional video content while applying visual design best practices.
- Facilitate workshops, pilot sessions, and train-the-trainer programs for engineers, technicians, and cross-departmental teams.
- Provide engaging instructor-led and virtual training sessions tailored for technical audiences.
- Assess the effectiveness of training using Kirkpatrick’s evaluation levels and learning analytics.
Qualifications for the Instructional Designer:
- At least 5 years of experience in designing and delivering technical or industrial training programs.
- Background in supporting teams in R&D, product development, engineering, or similar technical settings.
- Demonstrated competency in managing multiple projects and competing demands with minimal oversight in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong project management and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Experience in facilitating technical training for engineers, technicians, and cross-function teams.
- Exceptional storytelling, visual communication, and multimedia content creation skills.
- Advanced skills in Articulate 360 (both Rise and Storyline) and proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as Premiere, Audition, and Photoshop.
- Experience using Synthesia is a plus.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% when required.
