The role of the Medical Assistant 2 is crucial as it serves as the primary contact for patient interactions, encompassing both clinical and administrative responsibilities. This position entails executing moderately complex operational and customer service duties, typically operating with minimal oversight on semi-routine tasks. The Medical Assistant 2 is expected to understand departmental policies, adhere to established protocols, and apply discretion where necessary.
Key Responsibilities of the Medical Assistant 2:
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Engage with patients to discuss symptoms and input relevant information into the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
- Measure vital signs and conduct diagnostic tests.
- Administer vaccinations and gather patient specimens.
- Execute blood draws and other phlebotomy tasks.
- Sanitize and maintain medical equipment.
- Ensure examination rooms are clean, organized, and ready for patient use.
- Deliver patient care within the limits of current certification.
- Collaborate closely with healthcare providers in a clinical environment.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Handle data entry and perform necessary computations.
- Maintain and organize patient documentation and records.
- Assist in various administrative tasks as needed.
- Organize and prioritize duties in accordance with quality standards and deadlines.
- Follow established procedures, making occasional decisions when necessary.
Required Qualifications for Medical Assistant 2:
- A minimum of 1–3 years of experience in a back-office patient care role as a Medical Assistant.
- Current active State licensure (RMA/CMA) relevant to the field.
- Valid certification in CPR.
- Proficient hands-on experience in phlebotomy.
- Bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish are MANDATORY.
- Limited professional supervision experience (less than 2 years).
- Must participate in a Tuberculosis (TB) screening program.
- Strong capabilities in communication and teamwork.
- Experience in high-volume and fast-paced clinical settings.
- Familiarity with MS Outlook and basic computing skills.
- A commitment to enhancing patient experiences and outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications for Medical Assistant 2:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience applying Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
- Knowledge of HEDIS measures and reporting processes.
- Active Medical Assistant Certification or Registration from any recognized body like:
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- National Healthcareer Association
- American Registry of Medical Assistants
- National Association for Health Professionals
- American Medical Technologists
- Radiologic Technologist License (AART)
