Payroll Manager

Location: Akron, OH (Hybrid schedule: On-site Tuesday and Wednesday, Remote Monday, Thursday, and Friday)

Salary: $70,000 – $95,000

The Payroll Manager will be responsible for managing payroll processes for employees in the U.S. and Canada, ensuring that all operations are executed accurately, timely, and in compliance with regulations across different jurisdictions. This pivotal position will act as the primary resource for payroll tax compliance, timekeeping, benefits deductions, general ledger reconciliation, and ongoing improvement efforts.

Key Responsibilities of the Payroll Manager:

  • Oversee complete payroll processing cycles for approximately 2,000 employees in both the U.S. and Canada, including management of bi-weekly and weekly payroll for salaried and hourly workers.
  • Lead and mentor a team of three payroll processors, ensuring the prompt and accurate processing of payroll and benefits payments.
  • Guarantee adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations while collaborating with external tax service providers.
  • Utilize ADP for managing Canadian payroll processes and tax obligations, in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Reconcile accounts related to payroll in the general ledger and participate in monthly closing procedures.
  • Act as the main contact for payroll-related questions and resolution of issues.
  • Assist with internal and external audits covering payroll, 401K, and financial assessments.
  • Collaborate closely with HR, IT, and Finance departments to ensure seamless data integration and to support system improvements.
  • Train and assist payroll team members while maintaining precise records, processing documentation, and checklists.
  • Generate ad hoc payroll reports and aid in benefits surveys, renewals, and any reporting needs related to compliance or finance.

Qualifications for the Payroll Manager:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll and accounting is required.
  • Familiarity with Ceridian Dayforce payroll or other comparable systems is necessary.
  • Experience with timekeeping systems is essential.
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax compliance, GL reconciliation, and benefits management.
  • CPP designation is a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational capabilities, along with the capacity to work autonomously.
  • Ability to collaborate across HR, Finance, and IT departments effectively.
