Job Summary
The PACU RN (Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse) plays a critical role in providing nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures. This position involves monitoring patients’ postoperative recovery, ensuring their safety, and facilitating a smooth transition to the next phase of care. As a vital member of the healthcare team, the PACU RN is responsible for delivering compassionate and competent patient care while maintaining high standards of practice.
Responsibilities
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and level of consciousness post-anesthesia.
- Assess patient pain levels and manage pain relief protocols.
- Administer medications as prescribed and observe for adverse reactions.
- Communicate effectively with the surgical team regarding patient status.
- Educate patients and their families on post-operative care and recovery.
- Document patient information and care provided in the medical records.
- Assist in the preparation for discharge from the PACU.
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state.
- Experience in a surgical, critical care, or recovery setting preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple patients.
