Senior Buyer

Job Summary

The Senior Buyer in Québec, Canada, plays a crucial role in overseeing the procurement of raw materials essential for production operations, under the guidance of the Logistics and Supply lead. This position entails maintaining supplier relationships and monitoring delivery schedules while ensuring optimal cost-effectiveness. The Senior Buyer is also responsible for effective inventory management in collaboration with various departments and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Produce and evaluate reports using SAP and Power BI to verify appropriate stock levels and facilitate procurement forecasting.
• Establish and nurture long-term relationships with suppliers across North America, South America, and Asia, conducting meetings with local and international vendors as necessary.
• Negotiate contracts to secure required components and prevent delivery delays.
• Collaborate in the approval process for new suppliers and inventory SKUs.
• Serve as the communication link between the Windsor (Quebec) plant and corporate departments, specifically Global Sourcing.
• Oversee the processing of goods returns from suppliers.
• Manage discrepancies between transporters and raw material suppliers.
• Supervise the purchasing team to ensure a consistent supply of raw materials.
• Set goals for reducing procurement costs while upholding quality and delivery timelines.
• Notify the planning team about the unavailability of components impacting customer orders.
• Facilitate the required customs documentation with suppliers.
• Take part in the annual inventory assessment.
• Create purchase orders for various raw materials.
• Address and rectify any discrepancies in purchase orders.
• Update order statuses to ensure accurate delivery dates.
• Evaluate reports to spot non-compliant or pending orders to avert supply shortages.
• Confirm order arrival dates and organize their receipt accordingly.
• Engage actively in problem-solving discussions with various teams.

Qualifications

• 5 to 7 years of experience in purchasing management within a manufacturing setting.
• Knowledge of residential construction materials is essential.
• Experience with both national and international procurement processes is required.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Organization and prioritization skills are critical.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Familiar with inventory management systems like SAP.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Bilingual in French and English; Spanish is an asset for communication with suppliers.
• Understanding of equipment and supply planning concepts.
