Water Treatment Project Manager Job Summary
The Water Treatment Project Manager is an external, client-facing role focused on developing and delivering innovative industrial water and energy solutions. The role will support projects involving water reuse, alternative cooling systems, waste heat recovery, advanced water treatment, and water quality management. The ideal candidate is an experienced engineer who is proactive, highly organized, adaptable, and comfortable leading cross-functional teams with a high degree of independence.
Water Treatment Project Manager Job Responsibilities
- Manage commercial, industrial, and municipal projects involving water, cooling, and heat reuse solutions.
- Lead projects related to:
- Alternative and non-potable water cooling systems.
- Water sourcing, reuse, treatment, and supply agreements.
- Waste heat recovery and heat reuse.
- Advanced water quality and treatment programs.
- Develop contracts, ROM cost estimates, project schedules, permits, and agreements.
- Coordinate with landowners, municipalities, water purveyors, regulators, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Oversee engineering studies, research projects, infrastructure design, and construction activities.
- Evaluate existing systems and recommend improvements to performance, reliability, efficiency, and cost.
- Prepare permitting and regulatory compliance documentation, including NPDES, 404/401, USACE, and water rights requirements.
- Lead cross-functional meetings and coordinate internal and external project teams.
- Support development of data, analytics, and SaaS tools related to water and infrastructure projects.
- Apply risk-management practices to identify challenges and improve project execution.
- Support business development, marketing, and other company initiatives as needed.
Water Treatment Project Manager Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years of relevant engineering/project management experience.
- Experience in water, wastewater, industrial process systems, water reuse, or advanced cooling systems.
- Strong project management, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to independently make decisions, manage risks, and drive projects forward with limited oversight.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and adapting quickly to changing priorities.
- Proficiency with relevant engineering, project management, data, and industry software tools.
Water Treatment Project Manager Preferred Experience
- Chemical engineering experience with water reuse or advanced cooling design is preferred.
- Experience in oil & gas, refining, or large-scale industrial operations.
- PE license
