Workers’ Compensation Paralegal Overview
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Workers’ Compensation Paralegal to support a busy legal team in a Cleveland office. This role will provide comprehensive paralegal support to attorneys handling workers’ compensation matters, including claims, administrative hearings, filings, medical records, and litigation preparation.
Workers’ Compensation Paralegal Key Responsibilities
- Provide proactive administrative and legal support to attorneys.
- Draft and prepare legal documents, correspondence, and filings.
- Draft claim summary correspondence for Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs).
- File documents electronically with courts and applicable agencies.
- Prepare workers’ compensation claims for administrative hearings.
- Request, organize, and review medical records and related documentation.
- Monitor case deadlines and ensure timely completion of required tasks.
- Assist with preparation for depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
- Edit and proofread documents for accuracy and compliance with applicable rules and statutes.
- Maintain organized case files and documentation.
- Research and follow applicable federal and state statutes, local rules, and procedural requirements.
- Communicate professionally and efficiently with attorneys, clients, courts, agencies, and other parties.
- Prioritize multiple cases and assignments while responding to requests with a sense of urgency.
- Identify potential issues and escalate matters to attorneys as appropriate.
- Provide general case and administrative support to the workers’ compensation team.
Workers’ Compensation Paralegal Qualifications
- 3+ years of paralegal experience in a law firm or other legal setting.
- Experience supporting workers’ compensation matters strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with the rules and procedures of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation and Industrial Commission of Ohio preferred.
- Paralegal certificate/degree or Bachelor’s degree desired.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to manage multiple cases, projects, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Sound judgment with the ability to identify and escalate issues appropriately.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work effectively in a deadline-driven legal environment.
