Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) in Surgery plays a pivotal role in ensuring optimal patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. This dedicated professional is responsible for assessing patient needs, providing necessary preoperative education, and coordinating post-surgical care to promote effective recovery. The RN collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating critical thinking and clinical expertise throughout the surgical process.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ health status in preparation for surgeries.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician.
  • Provide preoperative education to patients and their families to ensure understanding of procedures.
  • Assist the surgical team during operations by maintaining aseptic technique and managing surgical instruments.
  • Monitor patients closely during recovery, documenting vital signs and responding to any changes in condition.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Educate patients and families about the recovery process and any follow-up care needed.

Qualifications

  • Current RN licensure in the state of practice.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Experience in surgical nursing or operating room settings is an advantage.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to interact with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications are typically required.
