Job Summary
The Peer Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing assistance and support to individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges. Using lived experiences, the specialist fosters hope and empowerment in clients, helping them to navigate their recovery journey. This role emphasizes fostering a supportive environment through shared understanding and mutual respect.
Responsibilities
- Assist individuals in developing and establishing personal recovery plans.
- Encourage and motivate clients by sharing personal recovery experiences.
- Facilitate support groups and educational workshops focused on recovery.
- Act as a liaison to connect clients with community resources and support services.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with ethical guidelines.
- Document client progress and provide feedback to team members.
Qualifications
- Personal experience with mental health or substance use recovery.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team to support clients.
- Understanding of recovery principles and peer support methods.
- Certification as a Peer Support Specialist is preferred or willingness to obtain.
