Job Summary
The Pre-operative Registered Nurse (RN) is essential in ensuring a seamless transition for patients prior to surgery. This role involves preparing patients physically and emotionally for surgical procedures, which includes assessing their health status, educating them about the surgical process, and coordinating necessary pre-operative tests and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ health histories and current health status.
- Provide education and support to patients and their families about the upcoming surgical procedures.
- Ensure all required pre-operative tests and documentation are complete and accurate.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to confirm that all pre-operative protocols are followed.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and prepare them for anesthesia as necessary.
- Address any patient concerns or questions related to surgery to promote understanding and comfort.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment in the pre-operative area.
Qualifications
- Valid nursing license as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Previous experience in a surgical or perioperative setting is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of pre-operative protocols and patient care standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients and families.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment.
- Critical thinking skills and the capacity to respond to emergencies promptly.
