Job Summary
The Pre-operative Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of patients prior to surgical procedures. This position involves assessing patients, preparing them for surgery, and working collaboratively with surgical teams to promote optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments to evaluate patients’ health statuses and identify any contraindications for surgery.
- Prepare patients for surgery by explaining the procedure and answering any questions to ensure their understanding and comfort.
- Administer prescribed medications and ensure patients undergo necessary pre-operative tests.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and overall condition during the pre-operative phase to detect any potential complications.
- Coordinate care with surgical teams and other healthcare professionals to streamline patient workflow.
- Document all relevant information accurately in patients’ medical records.
- Educate patients and families about post-operative care and recovery processes.
Qualifications
- Current and valid RN license in the state of practice.
- Associate’s degree in nursing; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Experience in pre-operative nursing or surgical care is advantageous.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and team members.
- Ability to both work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures and protocols.
