Travel Physical Therapy Assistant – Acute Care Hospital
Charleston, WV
$1600/week

The **Physical Therapy Assistant – Acute Care Hospital** will play a key role in patient support within a substantial acute care facility by adhering to the treatment plans established by Physical Therapists. Responsibilities include enhancing treatment sessions, assisting with mobility and transfer tasks, and educating patients and their families. This 13-week position is located in Charleston, WV, and requires prior experience in an acute care hospital setting.

Responsibilities of the Physical Therapy Assistant:

  • Implement the Physical Therapist’s care plans for adult and elderly patients in acute care.
  • Assist in providing treatment for around 16 treatment units daily.
  • Support home exercise regimens, patient lifting and transfers, patient and family education, safety measures, and assist with billing documentation.
  • Facilitate patient mobility and care using tools such as bed alarms, call systems, crutches, gait belts, hospital beds, rolling walkers, and sit-to-stand lifts.
  • Conduct and assist in assessments covering AROM/AAROM/PROM, attention and arousal levels, use of assistive devices, biomechanics, environmental obstacles, pain evaluations, sensory responses, strength evaluations, and vital sign tracking.
  • Interact with patients in a diverse 390-bed acute care hospital, including those recovering from heart surgery, orthopedic procedures, and other medical issues.

Qualifications for the Physical Therapy Assistant:

  • At least 1 year of experience as a PTA is mandatory.
  • Experience in an acute care hospital is strongly preferred.
  • Current BLS certification is essential.
  • Previous travel experience is a plus; however, first-time travelers with strong specialty experience may be considered.
  • An active West Virginia license is necessary before the start of the assignment; candidates may be submitted with a pending license application.
  • Familiarity with Cerner is advantageous, given the facility’s charting system.
  • Comfort in treating both adult and elderly patient groups is required.
