Job Summary

The Cardiology Stepdown Nurse plays a crucial role in providing specialized care to patients transitioning from intensive cardiac care to a stepdown unit. This position requires a dedicated nursing professional who possesses extensive knowledge of cardiac conditions and the skills necessary to monitor, assess, and assist patients recovering from heart-related procedures and illnesses.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess patients’ cardiac status and vital signs continuously.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
  • Educate patients and their families about cardiac health, treatment plans, and self-care strategies.
  • Respond to emergencies and manage critical situations effectively.
  • Document patient progress and changes in condition accurately in medical records.
  • Assist with pediatric and adolescent patients in a step-down environment as needed.
  • Participate in continuous education to stay informed of the latest trends and practices in cardiac nursing.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure is required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a critical care or cardiac nursing setting.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is necessary.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to make quick decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients and team members.
