Job Summary
The Respiratory Therapist in Mount Vernon, OH, scheduled from 6:30 pm to 7 am, plays a crucial role in assessing, treating, and caring for patients experiencing breathing or cardiopulmonary issues. This position spans a diverse patient demographic, from premature infants to elderly individuals afflicted with chronic conditions such as asthma or COPD. Compensation includes a $40 per hour rate along with a $25,000 signing bonus contingent upon a two-year contract, plus a $5 shift differential.
Responsibilities
- Perform emergency intubation across all age groups.
- Maintain clear and precise documentation.
- Acquire and keep updated knowledge of oxygen delivery systems and the necessary equipment.
- Monitor and assess potential side effects from oxygen therapy.
- Administer various respiratory therapy treatments, understanding their purposes and possible side effects.
- Set up and monitor mechanical ventilators, along with critical care responsibilities such as airway management and tracheal suctioning.
- Conduct arterial punctures for blood gas analysis, aware of complications that may arise.
- Document all relevant information on patient care notes following service completion.
- Be proficient in departmental documentation procedures and forms.
- Carry out EKGs, relay reports to relevant physicians, and ensure filing protocols are followed.
- Understand and apply various treatment techniques for patients of different ages, including pediatric and geriatric populations.
- Safely operate, inspect, and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure optimal functioning.
- Develop educational plans for patients and their families based on identified needs.
- Provide respectful and dignified care to patients and their families.
- Coordinate patient care efficiently in alignment with hospital policies.
- Assess patient needs and responses to treatments appropriately.
- Participate in on-call rotations and every third weekend work as required.
- Support essential job functions with appropriate tasks.
- Engage in staff meetings, continuing education, and quality improvement activities.
Qualifications
- Certified in ACLS, PALS, NRP, and Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Graduated from an AMA-accredited School of Respiratory Therapy.
- Hold NBRC certification as a Respiratory Technician or Registered Therapist, licensed in Ohio.
- Possess current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist in Ohio.
- Completed Neonatal Resuscitation certification successfully.
- A minimum of three years of experience in cardiopulmonary services is preferred.
