Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Scientist is essential in executing microbiology examinations, processing specimens, and conducting culture assessments to aid in clinical diagnosis and enhance patient care. This role encompasses the upkeep of laboratory instruments, adherence to quality control protocols, and precise result reporting via the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Responsibilities
- Conduct microbiology testing to support clinical diagnoses.
- Process specimens accurately and efficiently.
- Perform culture analysis and interpret results.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
- Ensure adherence to quality control standards and protocols.
- Report test results accurately using the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a pertinent scientific discipline or completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program, along with necessary experience.
- Current professional certification such as Medical Technologist (MT ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS ASCP), or the commitment to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
