Job Summary
The role involves processing and preparing surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for various laboratory procedures including embedding, cutting, staining, and coverslipping, with a focus on specialized tissues and small biopsies. The position plays a critical part in ensuring quality control, maintaining laboratory instruments, and supporting the histology workflow while assisting in the evaluation of procedures and resolution of issues that may impact test outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens.
- Embed, cut, stain, and coverslip tissues, including specialized and minute biopsies.
- Conduct quality checks to ensure standards are met.
- Maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Support overall histology workflow and operations.
- Assist in evaluating procedures and addressing issues that affect results.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, with at least 30 semester credit hours in biology and chemistry.
- For those without graduation from an accredited training program, one year of relevant post-training clinical histology laboratory experience is necessary.
- HTL (ASCP) certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
