Job Summary
The Electrical Controls Engineer is tasked with delivering engineering support related to electrical and control systems, ensuring mill production efficiency and addressing equipment issues. Key aspects of the role include programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs, selecting appropriate electrical equipment, and collaborating with maintenance teams for modifications to controls and equipment. This position also oversees electrical and controls support for capital projects, engaging with various departments such as manufacturing, process engineering, operations, and maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering assistance for mill electrical and controls requirements to support production.
- Troubleshoot, edit, and program PLCs (Allen-Bradley PLC-5, SLC-500, and ControlLogix) and HMIs (Allen-Bradley RSView32 and FTView).
- Specify various electrical components, including motors, starters, VFDs, cables, conduits, and instrumentation for power distribution.
- Collaborate with maintenance E/I resources on troubleshooting and modifying controls or equipment.
- Lead electrical and controls initiatives for capital projects.
- Coordinate efforts with Manufacturing and Process Engineers, as well as operations and maintenance teams.
- Define project scopes and effectively communicate scheduling coordination with contractors.
- Create and revise drawings using AutoCAD.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in Electrical or Controls Engineering is preferred.
- Proficiency in programming, preferably with Allen-Bradley systems.
- Experience in electrical troubleshooting.
- Capability to read and understand electrical schematics.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD software.
